Swanton Welding Company would like to formally introduce a recent addition to our sales team. Tom Blalock joined the Swanton Welding family back in November of 2016 as a sales representative responsible for customer service and business development in our Southern division.

Tom is no stranger to the fabrication and welding industry. He began working as a machinist for another fabrication shop in 1989. Over the next 20 years, he expanded his skills as a welder and fabricator.

Moving into Sales

During the economic dip of 2008, the company Tom was working for had little work. The owner asked Tom if he could help drum up some business… anything would be a big help. Tom set out with Post-It notes and an ink pen and began knocking on doors asking if they needed metal work done.

Tom was successful at sales and realized he really liked it. He found he could easily relate to people.

“People aren’t your problem, they are your purpose.”

His efforts paid off and he was able to help drum up business to keep the company moving forward. He continued his role with them in sales for 8 years.

Time for a Change

After 28 years with the same company, Tom decided it was time to make some changes and decided to begin working on his own. The strong relationships he built over the past 20 years in sales continued on. Tom worked to help fulfill welding and fabrication needs for his clients by finding the best shop with the most competitive price.

In November 2016, Tom replied to a sales position posting by Swanton Welding. He immediately respected the family-like environment and the long track record Swanton Welding had for treating the customer the right way and having the proper infrastructure in place to take care of the customer. Tom’s confidence in the leadership at Swanton Welding made it easy to say yes to joining the team.

Tom’s role with Swanton Welding is pretty simple according to him. He takes care of the customers, making sure they are satisfied and finds new customers. He states that the “customer pays all the bills” making their level of satisfaction the most important item on the list.

Away from Work

When he is not at work, Tom likes to spend time with his wife of over 25 years and two children. He loves to golf and hunt along with participating in 3D archery tournaments. Tom is the process of restoring a ’67 Pontiac Firebird 400. He is also involved with his Baptist church and was a deacon at his previous church.

We welcome Tom Blalock to the Swanton Welding family.
